Multiple lawsuits have been filed against Western Digital over its SanDisk Extreme series and My Passport portable SSDs. The lawsuits allege that the SSDs were wiping data and becoming unmountable. Western Digital released a firmware update in May to address these issues, but complaints of lost data persisted. The lawsuits seek class-action certification and claim that the defective SSDs are now considered worthless due to the risk of permanent data loss. Western Digital has not commented on the pending litigation.
According to Ars Technica, the following are the affected Western Digital drives:
– SanDisk Extreme Portable 4TB (SDSSDE61-4T00)
– SanDisk Extreme Pro Portable 4TB (SDSSDE81-4T00)
– SanDisk Extreme Pro Portable 2TB (SDSSDE81-2T00)
– SanDisk Extreme Pro Portable 1TB (SDSSDE81-1T00)
– Western Digital My Passport 4TB (WDBAGF0040BGY).
Despite the legal proceedings are ongoing, it’s essential to exercise caution when considering the purchase of these specific SSD models until the issues are fully resolved and clearer information is provided to consumers. Western Digital has not commented on the pending litigation. Moreover, vigilance and proper research is advised before purchasing any modules as to avoid further disruption or damage to any devices.
