Let’s face it, we’ve all been lazy at some point to construct a simple essay for school or a promissory note to a company, or even worse, a letter to someone we’re lethargic to reply to. This is the reason why a few smart heads apparently developed a software that allows its users to construct conversations with minimal effort and, you guessed it: it’s called ChatGPT.
ChatGPT is developed by OpenAI as a language model and the software interacts with users as if it were having a conversation with them. It includes many features such as answering follow-up questions, rejecting inappropriate questions, and even admitting its mistakes. Ever since its launching in November 2022, it has been centered on controversy as well as its sister-software, AI art.
Open AI, however, is developing a software capable of detecting whether a particular piece of text was generated using ChatGPT or not because obviously his move comes in after the increasing nuisance of plagiarized and baseless content across many fields, such as education, journalism, and even research, with ChatGPT use being the main culprit as ChatGPT collects their resources from different sources. Furthermore, did you know that public schools in New York City have restricted access to ChatGPT on school networks and devices.
What now? The Spokesperson of OpenAI stated that they always called for transparency around the use of AI-generated text and that their policies require that users be up-front with their audience when using our API and creative tools, so should its users be critical on how to use the software. The hasty emergence of technology is at our doorstep but all it takes is to open that door before its reach takes hold of our sanctuary.
